My name is Sophie, and I am a coach...
I’m in my 40s, live in the country and love books and animals. I have studied Literature, Computer Science and Education at university, and that mixed bag of interests is reflected in a career that’s included PR, marketing, finance, property management and teaching secondary school English.
I’ve been called an angry feminist, but I’ve also been called a loyal ally, a good listener and a supportive leader. I’m a CTI trained coach, and I want to make a contribution, however small, to women feeling seen, respected and fairly treated in their lives and workplaces. I’d like to help with building confidence, establishing stronger self-worth and forging paths forward so that women can feel empowered in every role they hold, whether that’s as in an office, a school, a family or a home. I also specialise in coaching teachers – I’m a qualified teacher and know the strains and obstacles of the school environment.
Like most people of my age I’ve had more than one career. Through each of them I’ve noticed that across lots of different environments, women aren’t necessarily reaping all the rewards they deserve. Whether those rewards are respect, job satisfaction, progression, solid self-confidence or even plain old remuneration, they don’t seem to be distributed proportionally to the massive contribution of women in the workplace. And that’s before we even start on the load they carry in homes across the world.
When I really looked into this and spoke to women it seemed we are sometimes afraid to ask for more, often afraid to take up space, and regularly confounded by outdated ideas of who and what we should be.
And that’s no good is it?
The talent, experience, knowledge and passion that’s being wasted is a crying shame for the world at large, let alone every individual home or workplace. But what if it’s your talent, experience, knowledge and passion that’s being wasted?!
So I thought, maybe I can help.
I became a coach by training with the CoActive Institute – largely because I love their key message – that people are naturally creative and resourceful beings, with all the innate wisdom they need to make changes in life. As a coach it’s my job to help them dig it out. I really strongly feel that if I can help people to have faith in their own ideas and convictions, and to move through the world with confidence and purpose, that’s a contribution worth making. And if between us we all manage to make that into a network of glorious, strong, joyful women who just Get Stuff Done, so much the better!
