So how does it work?

You may have had some coaching before in a work environment, or it might be completely new to you. Either way, we start the process by checking it’s right for you before we both commit to it and start working on your goals and big ideas.

From there it can be a long-standing relationship, or a shorter one with a defined period to work on a particular goal. It can be as flexible as you need it to be, as coaching is always in service of you! That’s not to say we don’t take it seriously – as a coach it’s my job to hold you accountable and keep you commited to our work together.

All sessions are held over Zoom, which is free for you to install on your phone, tablet or laptop. I can offer in-person sessions in my local area, but often people find it easier to feel relaxed and open in their own homes.

The sort of topics that clients bring to coaching often include:

  • “I feel stuck! How can I get out of this rut?”
  • “I don’t like my job but don’t know what else I could do…”
  • “I’m not good at sticking up for myself and it’s making me resentful.”
  • “I’m juggling so many balls and I can’t see any I can drop!”

Free introductory call

It’s hugely important to start by getting to know each other, and figuring out if we can work together. Lots of coaches call this a “chemistry call” because it’s almost like a first date! It’s done over the phone or by video call for everyone’s convenience.

We’ll have a chat about how coaching can help, what it can and can’t achieve, and whetherer it might be for you. We’ll have a first chat about you, who you are and your potential goals. Then you get to decide if you’d like to be coached. There’s no obligation to go ahead if you think it might not be what you want or need after all, but if you do, we’ll set up a time for your first session.

Discovery session

This is your first coaching session, where we find out everything we can about you and your goals. It’s slightly different in format to regular sessions as it’s all about gathering all the information needed to help us work together towards making the changes you want to make.

We’ll also set up an agreement about how we work together, which will include things like confidentiality, scheduling and how you like to be held accountable for progress. Then we’re ready to get down to it…

Regular coaching sessions

These last an hour each, and can be scheduled to suit you. It’s important that they’re manageable for you to fit in and don’t feel like another commitment piled on your busy life – so they can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly. We can work this out together when we talk about what we’re aiming for. We’ll also discuss whether you have a timeframe for your coaching and goal, or whether you’d like to work together indefinitely.

In the sessions we’ll use techniques and exercises that help you work out big things like your purpose and what fulfils you, as well as smaller things like how to deal with everyday situations you want to change. We’ll also just talk a lot! I’ll be here to listen and help you interpret and express ideas, and ask you questions you maybe hadn’t thought of to help you move forwards

At the end of sessions, we’ll talk about how to take what we’ve discussed back out into your life. It’s my job to help you keep momentum, so I might set you a practical “homework” to do (e.g. “I’ll say no to three things I don’t want to do this week!”)  or ask you a big question that I want you to think about and jot down some ideas on (e.g. “What is it that stops me speaking up?”). We’ll start the next session looking at how it went.

Completion

Although any coach would tell you that everyone’s life is a work in progress, and that’s exactly as it should be, there may come a time when you’ve smashed the specific problem you came to coaching to work on, or when you’ve made the changes you want to and feel content. This is amazing and exactly what we set out to do!

So, when we come to your final session or sessions, whether they’re at the end of a long coaching relationship, or a fixed block of sessions, we’ll wrap up. We’ll go over everything you’ve achieved, talk about how we can maintain all that progress and make sure you’ve got everything you need to keep moving forward. There might even be cake to celebrate a job well done…
